Hobbits host the Habitat Trust for Wildlife

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

When all the media is busy trying to focus only on how adult content will save Second Life, others are busy trying to develop ways to raise money for various kinds of charity.

In earlier posts I wrote posts about charities for cancer victims, and now I found an entire society of nature lovers.

The Habitat Trust has found it’s way into the virtual world. ‘Hobbit Land‘ it’s called, and it works out more or less the same way, as the RL Habitat Trust does. In Hobbit Land you rent yourself a home, and the profits from your rent goes to the RL trust fond.

I’ll spare you from more talk now. Just urge you to go have a look for yourself. If you’re looking for a cosy home in fabulous and calm surroundings, this could be just the place for you. From the signs on the meeting platform, there’s still a few vacant houses left.

Cancer research supporters return to web 1.0

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

The Association for International Cancer Research has now sort of turned the web-evolution inside-out and opened up a website to support their activities in the virtual world of Second Life.

Don’t get this wrong – it’s NOT at step back. On the contrary. In fact the website can end up being an example how to connect traditional web-users to the SL-users. A short intro to the AICR in SL helps the interested on the way.

Pay the new AICR-site a visit in your next lunchbreak. It’s worth it:

P.S.: Thanks to Kristopher Munro (Kristopher Tenk, SL) for the tip about the website.

L$222402 raised for cancer research on 2nd auction

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Kristopher Tenk (Kris Munro) and the AICR-crew managed to raise no less than L$222402 (around US$800) throwing the second charity auction in SL this year.

Around 50 dedicated avatars (my count) showed up at the newly build Loch Lomond Ruin in SL Scotland, to stand together against the no. 1 burden to ppl in the industrialized world. Among them Jack Glenelg, owner of AICR in Second Life.

Best bid was set by Tracy Starbrook, who wanted to make sure she got her CT Broek with her home, and hoisted staggering L$25000 :-)

The bids were: (gender) ‘Subject’ (Bidder) – ‘prize’

  • (m) CT Broek (Tracy Starbrook) – 25000
  • (f) Goldie Larson (CHUCK Soderstrom) – 21000
  • (f) Sula Laval (CHUCK Soderstrom) – 20000
  • (m) Paulza Petrov (Katt Ferrais) – 18000
  • (m) CHUCK Soderstrom (Linzi Berjis) – 16000
  • (m) Stickboom Pinion (LassDream McMahon) – 16000
  • (f) Gabriella Meriman (Ley Wrangler) – 13100
  • (f) Linzi Bergis (Ley Wrangler) – 10001
  • (f) Vor Torok (Karl Zhong) – 10001
  • (f) Endless Miles (CHUCK Soderstrom) – 10000
  • (m) Balthier Dagostino (cookiedianne Rhode) – 10000
  • (f) Lake Rhode (Stickboom Pinion) – 10000
  • (m) Ley Wrangler (Linzi Berjis) – 8800
  • (m) Jack Glenelg (Mistral Cale) – 5500
  • (f) Mistral Cale (Dexter Tones) – 5500
  • (m) Tam Kaminski (Elouise Lane) – 5000
  • (f) Mellody Roux (Indiana Bade) – 5000
  • (m) Mark Lock (Vor Torok) – 3000
  • (m) Kristopher Tenk (?) – 2500
  • (m) hilaire Beaumont (Vor Torok) – 2000
  • (m) GJ Hennesy (Tracy Starbrook) – 1000

End result of L$217402 – adding the extra 5000 from cookiedianne Rhode who crashed in the middle of a very important bid (hrm, hrm… me!).

AICR charity auction 15th of October 2007 at 20:00BST

With the sworn course of trying to beat the UK £229 record of the August charity auction for cancer research Kristopher Tenk (aka Kristopher Munro, CC Technology) is throwing another 3 hour event at the 15th of October 2007 – this time at the newly build Loch Lomond Scotland (SLURL).

13 handsome guys and 13 princesses in spe are up for auction and the lucky buyers are in for a date with the best purpose imaginable – Date against cancer, date for life :-)

Follow the blog for further details. I’ll put them up as soon as I get them.

Please do take a minute to check the AICR Auction Rules before showing up with your fat wallet :-)

Another charity event for cancer research

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Kristopher Tenk – who hosted the first AICR (Association for International Cancer Research) charity event in Second Life in August – is throwing another show in mid October.

The first AICR event was an auction, where bidders could win a date with a volounteer male or female. By that event the AICR gathered UK£ 229 (more than L$ 100.000). (read: Auction raised £229 for cancer research)

More detailed info of where and exactly when is on the way. Meanwhile Kristopher Tenk is looking for avatars who actually went on a “won” date after the first event in SL Scotland. How did it go? Did they get new friends etc. etc. In a group mail he writes:

“Did you go on a date for our first auction? if yes then AICR would like to hear from you and how the date went. Please IM Kristopher Tenk the information.

We are going to be redesigning our website at some point to include a second life section and will post your replies there :-)

Also Kris is keen to hear from avatars who’d gladly participate and be “auctioned” off at the upcoming event in October.

Auction raised £229 for cancer research

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

I was actually trying to do some research for something totally different, when I was IM’ed (Instant Message) by one of my very best friends in Second Life.

Mystra Gide asked me to participate in an charity auction for cancer research (AICR – Association for International Cancer Research), and I immidiately hurdled off to ‘Scotland‘, where the auction were held.

Lindens gather in ‘Scotland’ to raise money for cancer research. (Mystra is in pink to the right)

The auction started just when I arrived. A beautiful female avatar called Ladyc073 was placed on a podium, and had I not heard the introduction to the auction by the host, Kristopher Tenk, I might have mistaken it for something else.

The female av started dancing and then the mere 50 avatars started yelling bids at a big board just behind the podium. With in a few seconds the bids passed L$3000. 3 minutes later she was “sold” to a guy in the crowd, that actually appeared to be her own boyfriend. It was then I got the point.

The highest bidder won a date with the dancing person on the podium. A really good and different way to meet new people in Second Life – and for a very noble course. Only the highest bid was collected and went to the AICR.

Somewhere between 10 or 15 avatars were up dancing – males and females. Also Mystra went up there and then the crowd went nuts. I think she went for L$20000.

The more moderate (don’t call me cheap) among the crowd settled for a 6000 bid on a scottish lass… and won :-)

All in all Kristopher Tenk and the AICR collected L$131.739 (£229) from the auction in just a few hours. Personally I think that’s pretty cool. I wonder how much more Kris, AICR and others can make from the open-minded lindens in the future.

I will follow up on this. Meanwhile I recommend you all to pay the AICR-shop a visit. (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Scotland/216/204/36)
